Instructions for the Plus! theme files...

Please read through this tutorial before you start, so you will
be familiar with how this works. It may keep you from having to
go back and change or redo something.

Make yourself a new folder in c:\programfiles\plus\themes
and name it the name of the theme. You can extract everything
into that folder, or you can make individual folders (cursors,
icons, logos, sounds, wallpaper) to keep everything organized.

Extract the files into their associated folders. Extract the
color file for your operating system (win95 or 98) into the
\plus\themes folder. Extract the font into c:\windows\fonts.
Now you must open the windows\font folder to activate it (you
probably already have the font, but just in case).

Next, go to the control panel, click on the themes icon, and activate
the color scheme (if your opening TR2, give it a little while to
get used to, it's a bit different...).

Next, if you need the wallpapers to be bitmaps (you will unless you
have a program that will convert them), right click on them
to save them off the site, and select 'bitmap' under the
'save as type' window. Browse to your folder, save them, and/or
send a copy to the c:\windows folder. Right click on the desktop,
click the 'background' tab, and scroll down to the picture you want.

Next, go to the control panel and click on the mouse icon. Select the
'pointer' tab, highlight a cursor, and browse to your new cursors
for the proper one. Cursors have what is called the 'hot spot', which
is the pixel in the cursor that actually does the pointing. Most
cursors have the 'hot spot' in the center, unless it's shape makes
it obvious (the machine gun 'hot spot' is on the end of the barrel).

Now click on the 'sounds' icon in the control panel, highlight the
sound you want to change, and browse to your new theme folder to
apply the sound. The names will be the same (or pretty close), and not
all sounds will have a new sound (some are uneeded, some I couldn't
find enough sounds to fill them all...)

Now go to your new theme folder, find the logo.sys file, and COPY it
to the c: drive. It will over-write one that is already there. COPY
the logos.sys and logow.sys files to the c:\windows folder, again
over-writing the ones there.

If the theme included a screensaver, also copy it to the c:\windows
folder. Right click the desktop, click the 'screensaver' tab, select
the new screensaver, and adjust the time to what you want.

Now (almost finished), right click the desktop and select either the
'effects' tab for 98, or the 'plus' tab for 95. Make sure 'smooth
edges of screen fonts' and 'show icons in all possible colors' are
both checked. Then highlight the icon you want to change, and browse
to your new icons and select any one you want.

Ok, it's time to save so that all that work won't have to be done
again... Go to control panel, click on the 'theme' icon, and select
'SAVE AS'. Find the name of the theme you have just applied, and
save over the top of it (this will save all the changes). Click 'ok'
(this will re-apply everything), and make sure everything stayed in
place. If it didn't, you may have hit 'cancel' or 'x' after you
changed something instead of 'ok' or 'apply'.

Now restart so everything will be refreshed, and you should see your
new start-up and shut-down screens. Enjoy!

If anyone has any problems (files corrupted or can't figure out
where they go), or would like somehting a little different, e-mail me
and I'll see what I can do.
